Currently there is only one distiller worldwide producing this exotic oil. They harvest only 33% of the fruit annually to ensure proper natural regeneration of this precious plant. By distilling the fruit of the tree, this contributes to the preservation and protection of this species.
Since this is a new essential oil on the market, it is important to work with companies that can prove their sustainability practices supported by Ecuadorian law. Our supplier creates economic opportunities for farmers in southern Ecuador where there are virtually none. By creating this symbiotic relationship between sustainable wildcrafting and ethical business practices, we have grown very fond of them! We plan on traveling to Loja in 2023 to meet this close knit family team and to learn more about their process and their environmental impact.
